Supervisor of Roadside Maintenance Conservation Corps Crew

Supervises crew of up to three to seven corps members engaged in public roadway maintenance, lands conservation, maintenance and trail project work. Under the supervision of the Project Director, provides supervision of corps members during projects on public roadways, conservation and trail projects on public lands. Supervisor works in cooperation with the Department of Transportation Staff.  Provides corps members with instruction and direction during all aspects of the projects typically landscaping (mowing, brush removal, slope mowing), invasive species removal, sign washing, guardrail repairs, chain link and farm fence installation.  Assures corps members are in compliance with all safety, CTW and DOT rules and requirements at all times. Assists in the mentoring young adults (18-29) and veterans up to 35 to fulfill CTW’s vision, to assist those we serve to improve their communities and their lives.  As a Supervisor you will build a community, oversee the health and safety of your crew, and teach both life and job skills in a work, and education focused setting. You must be ready for a challenge and enjoy working with and teaching others. Previous highway maintenance or crew supervisor/leader experience a plus.

YMCA Community Connections Corps Member

As an affiliate of The Corps Network’s national AmeriCorps Education Awards Only (EAP) program, YACC-Young American Conservation Corps at Community Training Works, Inc. has partnered with the YMCA of Tampa Bay and other local organizations to launch the Department of Interior’s “Play Learn Serve Work” Youth Initiative. The primary objective of the AmeriCorps Member is to assist the YMCA’s Community Coordinator to advance the Department of Interior’s youth initiative thereby increasing community population’s connections to nature and engagement on public lands. The goal of this initiative is to: Connect youth, families, and entire communities to public lands through outdoor recreation, educational programming, service projects and employment training opportunities. Develop partnerships with municipalities, non-profit organizations, schools, health care providers and other stakeholders to help young people develop strong, lasting connections to nature and public lands. Develop leadership opportunities for the next generation of environmental stewards by increasing service opportunities and engaging entire communities in partnership with public, private and nonprofit representatives.  An existing corps member whose available to train has laid the groundwork on this initiative in its first year and has obtained a full time permanent position with a major sporting goods retailer, an excellent outcome!

Field Crew Member
Community Training Works, Inc.

Field Crew Members (ages 18-25) receive on-the-job training to learn highway maintenance skills and natural resources management skills and put those skills into practice completing roadside maintenance projects throughout northeast Florida. Crews complete natural resource conservation projects such as mowing, exotic species management, sign washing, litter, clearing and grubbing, guardrail repair, chain link fence installation, farm fence installation and emergency response. Three positions are open in this developmental program of up to 18 months where crew members will select a track (career, education or personal/life  management) and work to develop and implement an individual goal plan.  Crew members simultaneously receive on the job training in roadside maintenance and conservation skills and may qualify for an AmeriCorps educational award program to earn an award to pay for college includes a trade school or pay off a student loan. Crew members may also qualify for serving an additional term.

Location: various locations in Duval, Clay, Putnam and St Johns counties based out of St. Augustine, FL

Supervisor of Fence Crew – Highway Maintenance
Community Training Works, Inc.

Directly supervise and coordinate activities of a Crew of 3-5 engaged in installation of commercial and industrial chain link fence (DOT spec).  Liaison between prime contractor’s contracts inspector and our home office, review contract & pay items list, receive work documents and perform fencing work, sign off on completed work documents, insure safety and company policy protocols are followed, submit expense reports and mentor young adults engaged in on the job training work experience program.  Experience in commercial chain link fence installation and supervisory experience a must.  Commercial auto insurability on drivers license required. Maintaining or passing AMOT (Advanced Maintenance of Traffic) certification required.  Physical and drug screening and background check will be conducted by the employer.  Experience in other highway or roadside maintenance services a plus.
